Augustine Okafor is a Partner at KENNA with over a decade of experience advising clients across Nigeria’s energy sector, particularly in oil and gas, upstream and offshore operations, regulatory compliance, asset advisory, international joint ventures and energy-related disputes.
He provides strategic counsel to international oil companies, indigenous energy companies, financial institutions, investors and multinational corporations on complex transactions, regulatory matters and high-value disputes. His experience covers upstream petroleum operations, joint venture arrangements, asset acquisitions, regulatory investigations and the management of legal and commercial risks within the energy industry.
Augustine has significant experience in litigation, arbitration and alternative dispute resolution. He is recognised for developing practical case strategies and translating complex legal and factual issues into solutions aligned with clients’ operational and commercial objectives. He has developed and implemented more than 100 case-management strategies for energy companies, financial institutions, telecommunications firms and other leading corporations.
His practice also includes major asset and property acquisition transactions. He advises clients on legal due diligence, transaction structuring, contract negotiation, documentation and perfection of title, and has supported transactions valued in tens of billions of naira and millions of United States dollars.
Known for his analytical depth, commercial pragmatism and understanding of the operational realities of the energy industry, he helps clients navigate complex regulatory frameworks, manage risk and achieve sustainable commercial outcomes.
