
Tomi Omotayo
General Counsel and Compliance, Matrix Energy Exploration and Production Company
As an Executive Management of Matrix Energy Exploration and Production Company Limited, a foremost indigenous Oil and Gas Company, Tomi Omotayo has over 20 years of legal, transactional, compliance and ethics experience with over 16 years in the Oil & Gas Business, during which she has specialized in oil and gas law, upstream asset acquisition and divestment, regulatory compliance, hydrocarbon commercialization, contracting and legal advisory.
As General Counsel and Compliance at Matrix Energy Exploration and Production Company Limited, she leads the Legal Advisory, Supply Chain related transactions and Regulatory Compliance functions.
Prior to joining Matrix Energy, Tomi worked with Niger Delta Petroleum Resources Limited (now Aradel Energy), Nigeria’s first integrated oil and gas company. She was employed as a legal officer but rose over the years through the ranks of the Company, becoming a Senior Legal Counsel, and acting as Company Secretary for ND Refineries Limited (Aradel Refinery) and ND Gas Limited (Aradel Gas), both subsidiaries of Niger Delta Exploration & Production Plc (Aradel Holdings Plc). Tomi successfully led the in-house negotiations of business transactions, coordinated, and managed contracts, and legal documentary processes and provided high level corporate secretarial services for the NDEP (Aradel) subsidiaries.
She started her career in litigation practice, at the leading law firms of Bode Elemide Esq and Olujinmi & Akeredolu SAN. She later became a law lecturer at the Olabisi Onabanjo University until she transitioned to in-house commercial and corporate law practice, with extensive focus and development of expertise in oil and gas law.
She is the Sector Secretary, Gas & Power in Women in Energy, Oil and Gas (WEOG). She is also a member of the prestigious Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), the Nigerian Gas Association (NGA), Society for Corporate Governance, Nigeria (SCGN) and Chartered Institute of Directors Nigeria (CIOD).
The Legal Team she led at Aradel was the winner of the Oil & Gas Team for the 2021 ESQ Nigerian Legal Awards and at Matrix she won the In -House Counsel (Oil & Gas) Award of Excellence by Lawyers In Energy International Conference and Awards (L.E.I.C.A. 2024).
She has mentored young legal professionals on the Nigerian Bar Association forum.
